12 MARCH 2015 | Closed door session, Invite Only
While traditional channels of human trafficking remain in place, online technologies allow traffickers to exploit a greater number of victims across geographic boundaries. Unbeknownst to most, technology created by the private-sector is being used by traffickers around the world. Digital and networked technologies aid various aspects of trafficking, from grooming, recruitment, and control of victims, to advertising, movement, and financial transactions.
Technology contributes to both the problem and solution for human trafficking. Attend this session to understand more about how your technology could be exploited by traffickers and what you can do about it. This session aims to demonstrate how crucial technology is for counter-trafficking efforts in the 21st century.
“The time has come to harness the power of technology to go after those using it to enslave others.” – California Attorney General Kamala D. Harris
